A concept built in iterations

The design process went through several stages before arriving at its final form. “The original concept was a sun hanging above the stage, but after a few design iterations we landed on a circle that sits half on the floor and half as a backdrop,” Edwards explains. He developed the concept together with Maro, with the sun visual carried through the full arc of the show: the opening sequence reads as a sunrise, the closing sequence as a sunset, achieved primarily through the color-changing range of the fixtures rather than through scenic elements alone.

The CLUSTER B2 FC units were positioned on the floor at the back of the stage, where they generated the sunrise glow behind the circular set piece. The same floor position gave Edwards a second use for the fixtures: as backlight shining directly through the band.

The CLUSTER B2 FC is a two-lite, full-color audience blinder combining RGBA and warm white LEDs in individually controllable pods, with 16-bit dimming and adjustable PWM frequencies for flicker-free camera operation. For Edwards, the dimming behavior in particular set the fixture apart from the conventional blinders it was reproducing.

A different kind of show to light

Edwards describes the production as a deliberate departure from a conventional, beat-driven lighting approach. “It’s a very different kind of show, so I really enjoyed the challenge of doing something a bit out of the ordinary, lighting it in a more ethereal way rather than a straightforward 4/4 approach,” he says. The tour is scheduled to continue later this year with dates in the US and South America.

Elevating the Freedom Stage Experience

Tomorrowland is more than a festival – it is a masterpiece of music, light, technology, and emotions. In 2025, the Freedom Stage was completely redesigned, centered around a major tech upgrade that turned it into a true marvel of stage engineering.

“Tomorrowland’s Freedom Stage is a showcase of how technology can create emotions on a massive scale. With the NEO fx, we were able to contribute lighting that didn’t just illuminate the stage, but became part of the storytelling.”

As the world’s largest indoor dancefloor at a festival, the Freedom Stage is crowned by the spectacular Floating Sky installation – a kinetic roof and wall system featuring 210 video tiles and 300 m² of LED screens. With a 7-meter moving structure shifting and transforming above the crowd, this venue delivers a club-like intimacy combined with the scale of a festival.

The NEO fx didn’t just add light — they became part of the Freedom Stage’s immersive storytelling, interacting with music and kinetic LED structures to create goosebump-inducing moments for thousands of ravers.

In this high-tech environment, our NEO fx fixtures played a vital role. A total of 20 NEO fx were integrated directly behind the DJ booth on the ground, giving designers a powerful creative toolset:

Blinder effects that amplified the energy of the drops.

Precise strobe moments that synced seamlessly with visuals and sound.

Ambient backlight that extended the depth and impact of the massive LED installation.

Initially, plans for the main stage also included 200 NEOs from the NEO Series, intended to deliver an exceptional scale of visual impact. However, circumstances beyond control prevented their appearance, leaving the festival’s main stage without them.
